Hi there, and welcome to Beyond Genes!
I’m super excited to have you here at the beginning of this journey.
If you have found yourself here, let me introduce myself – Hello, I’m Gemma – a mother, wife, advocate and storyteller. I am a Trustee with the Timothy Syndrome Alliance, mother to my son Noah who has Timothy Syndrome, and wife to Paul. I’m really passionate about the Timothy Syndrome Alliance and got to join the team back in 2024. I’m passionate about advocating for CACNA1C and love connecting with people.
I’m sure you are wondering, “what is Beyond Genes?” This blog is a space created for those affected by CACNA1C-related disorders, including Timothy Syndrome. To come together to share your individual experiences. I wanted a space where you could tell your stories – whether that’s where it all began, what’s on your mind or even how your day went. All emotions and feelings are welcome and valid here, you are truly free to express yourself. This is your space.
I wanted to start this blog because I saw a gap. Genetics have brought us all together, but it’s so much more than that. I want a place for you to express yourself. Somewhere you can come put down your feelings, which for me, I find can be very therapeutic. To continue raising awareness of CACNA1C – and the best way to do that is through stories that connect with real people.
Whether you are a family member or friend of someone affected by CACNA1C or you are here yourself. I really hope you find Beyond Genes a good place to come to reflect, relax and decompress.
Welcome, and I’m thrilled to have you here!
